About this coffee

Bold. Dark. Unapologetically strong.

Java Sumatra Soul is not a delicate coffee. It is deep, intense and built for those who like their brew with real presence.

Grown on the volcanic soils of Java, this single origin coffee develops natural weight and structure. Those fertile landscapes are known for producing coffees with depth, low acidity and a grounding earthiness that lingers long after the last sip.

The Roast

This is a very dark roast, taken well beyond medium to unlock bold character and smoky undertones. The extended roast deepens the body, reduces acidity and pushes forward rich notes of dark chocolate and spice.

The result is strong without being sharp. Powerful without being bitter. A coffee that feels steady and confident in the cup.

In the Cup

Expect a full bodied brew with earthy depth, cocoa bitterness and a warming spice running through it. There is a subtle smokiness from the roast, balanced by a smooth texture that coats the palate.

It works beautifully as an espresso, where its intensity shines, but is equally at home in a cafetiere or filter for those who enjoy a darker, more traditional style coffee.

Java Sumatra Soul is for early mornings, long conversations and anyone who believes coffee should taste like coffee. Strong. Grounded. Soulful.

To ensure maximum freshness, quality and consistency, every batch is roasted in small quantities in Norfolk, United Kingdom.

Coffee Formats Explained

We offer our coffee in a range of formats to suit your brewing method.

  • Whole Bean: Our top recommendation, giving you the freshest cup when ground at home.
  • Cafetiere: A coarse grind, perfect for Cafetiere / French Press brewing
  • Filter: A medium to fine grind, ideal for filter / V60 / Chemex methods.
  • Aeropress: We would class this as a fine+ grind. Ideal for smooth extraction
  • Espresso: an extra fine grind. Ideal for espresso machines requiring ground coffee, Moka Pot or Stove Top brewing.
How much do i need?

Most people use around 15 to 18 grams of coffee per cup depending on the brew method. On average if you drink two cups a day you will go through about 250 grams in a week.

It is always worth ordering a little extra so you never run out!

Coffee Freshness

Most of our coffee is dispatched on the same day as roasting, ensuring it reaches you at peak freshness and each bag is clearly marked with a Roasted On date.

To allow flavours to develop and excess CO₂ to dissipated after roasting, we recommend allowing our freshly roasted coffee rest for at least 72 hours before drinking. Don't worry though, it will still taste great if you can't wait that long!

Our packaging contains a one-way degassing valve to both allow the degassing process to continue and keep unwanted air out.

Although our coffee can be stored for up to 1 year, we recommend enjoying within 1 month for maximum flavour. For best results, store your coffee in a high-quality airtight container.
