About this coffee

Strong Dark Roast Coffee Beans with Bold Chocolate Flavour

If you enjoy coffee that is rich, powerful and full of character, our Dark Matter House Blend is made for you. This expertly crafted dark roast coffee combines premium Arabica and Robusta beans to create one of our strongest coffees, delivering an intense flavour, low acidity and a satisfyingly long finish.

Expect a full bodied cup with notes of dark chocolate, roasted nuts and treacle, balanced by a smooth texture and a thick, velvety crema when brewed as espresso. Whether you prefer espresso, cappuccino, latte or black coffee, Dark Matter produces a bold cup that stands up beautifully to milk while retaining its rich character.

Available as whole coffee beans or freshly ground to suit your brewing method, every bag is freshly roasted in Norfolk before dispatch for maximum freshness.

Who Is This Coffee For?

Dark Matter is ideal if you:

  • Enjoy dark roast coffee beans
  • Prefer strong coffee with low acidity
  • Love rich chocolate flavours
  • Want a coffee with a thick crema
  • Like Italian style espresso
  • Need an extra morning kick

You may prefer another coffee if you enjoy bright, fruity or floral flavours, as Dark Matter focuses on richness rather than acidity.

Arabica and Robusta Blend

Dark Matter combines carefully selected Arabica and Robusta beans to create a coffee with exceptional depth.

The Arabica beans provide sweetness, complexity and chocolate notes, while the Robusta contributes body, crema and additional strength.

Together they create a balanced cup that is bold without becoming harsh.

What Does Dark Roast Coffee Taste Like?

Dark roast coffee develops deeper flavours during roasting, creating notes of chocolate, roasted nuts, caramel and toasted sugars while reducing acidity.

Many coffee lovers choose dark roast because it offers:

  • Richer flavour
  • Lower acidity
  • Fuller body
  • Smooth finish
  • Excellent performance with milk

If you enjoy strong coffee that is smooth rather than sharp, Dark Matter is an excellent choice.

Coffee Formats Explained

We offer our coffee in a range of formats to suit your brewing method.

  • Whole Bean: Our top recommendation, giving you the freshest cup when ground at home.
  • Cafetiere: A coarse grind, perfect for Cafetiere / French Press brewing
  • Filter: A medium to fine grind, ideal for filter / V60 / Chemex methods.
  • Aeropress: We would class this as a fine+ grind. Ideal for smooth extraction
  • Espresso: an extra fine grind. Ideal for espresso machines requiring ground coffee, Moka Pot or Stove Top brewing.
How much do i need?

Most people use around 15 to 18 grams of coffee per cup depending on the brew method. On average if you drink two cups a day you will go through about 250 grams in a week.

It is always worth ordering a little extra so you never run out!

Coffee Freshness

Most of our coffee is dispatched on the same day as roasting, ensuring it reaches you at peak freshness and each bag is clearly marked with a Roasted On date.

To allow flavours to develop and excess CO₂ to dissipated after roasting, we recommend allowing our freshly roasted coffee rest for at least 72 hours before drinking. Don't worry though, it will still taste great if you can't wait that long!

Our packaging contains a one-way degassing valve to both allow the degassing process to continue and keep unwanted air out.

Although our coffee can be stored for up to 1 year, we recommend enjoying within 1 month for maximum flavour. For best results, store your coffee in a high-quality airtight container.
